Test your German Knowledge

All our classes are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

If you are not sure which class you should choose, we hope that the following collection of self-assessment tests will help you. Of course, if you have any questions, please email us, and we will be happy to help you finding the right class.

Find here the description of the various levels A1 to C2  of the Common European Framework in layman’s terms.  You may find, depending on your experience, that you are at an B-2 level in reading, but at an A-2 level in speaking or some other combination. Read the descriptions of the various levels, and you can put together your own “Europass” by rating your own abilities in listening, speaking, reading and writing.

• This test from Goethe Institut takes about 20 min

• The publishing house Cornelsen offers placements tests on A1, A2, and B1 levels. The B1 level test focuses on reading and listening (not grammar) and takes quite a bit of time (50 minutes or so), but then you can print out a certificate with recommendations.

• Klett-Langenscheidt offers a wide variety of placement tests coordinated with the textbooks they sell. You could take a guess at your level and see which ones you are able to do.
