Why study German with us?

Our school is situated in beautiful Boulder, Colorado at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. The territories of what is today the city of Boulder were originally inhabited by several different Native American tribes, including the Arapahoe, Ute and Cheyenne. In the 1900s settlers came to this area during the gold rush and founded Boulder.

Our roots in education began in 1860, when the first schoolhouse in Colorado was built in Boulder. Also in 1860, Boulder citizens lobbied strongly with the State Legislature to have the State University located here. They succeeded, and the University of Colorado opened its doors in September of 1877, to one building, forty-four students, one professor and a President. Today, 30,000 of Boulder’s 100,000 residents are University of Colorado students and the University of Colorado at Boulder is the largest university in the state, with world renown research and teaching programs.

Boulder has one of the nation's best educated populations, with 67% having earned a bachelor's or advanced degree, more than twice the US average of 28%. It's not unusual on any given day to hear Boulder mentioned in national news coverage of groundbreaking scientific research. Punctuated by acronyms such as NCAR, NIST and NOAA, such stories reveal that Boulder's three national laboratories — the National Center for Atmospheric Research, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and National Institute of Standards and Technology — have been busy making some of the world's most important discoveries about Earth and beyond.

The university, the research labs, high tech companies such as Google and Apple, and German companies such as Audi attract an international and vibrant workforce, including many German speaking professionals and their families. Boulder is famous for its open space parks, trails and the value of environmental preservation, and an excellent quality of life with city parks, pedestrian malls, bike paths and countless outdoor festivals. Around town you can hear many languages spoken and many of us enjoy learning new languages at the university or at the private schools and language associations in town.

Boulder, since its early settler days has had German speaking immigrants. Fitting for German culture, one of its first breweries, Boulder City Brewery, was founded by German immigrants in 1876, with a beer garden, grape arbors, and an artificial lake.

Still today, many Boulderites have German, Swiss or Austrian roots. We celebrate traditional holidays and hold cultural events with friends and family and invite you to join us!

If you study with us in person or online, you will be part of the vibrant educational community of Boulder, Colorado!

Herzlich Willkommen!
